What is instant-runoff voting?

Instant-runoff voting (IRV) is a ranked voting method where voters order options by preference. If no option wins a majority of first-choice votes, the option with the fewest votes is eliminated and its votes redistribute to each voter's next choice. This repeats until one option holds a majority.

How do I invite people to my vote?

After creating a vote, tap "Share" to display a QR code and a 5-character join code (like AX4K9). Participants can scan the QR code or enter the code manually in the app. You can also copy a deep link (rankedchoice://join/CODE) to paste into any chat.

Do voters need to create an account?

No. Ranked Choice requires no account, email, or sign-up — for creators or voters. Voter identity is session-based and local to each device.

What's the difference between Cloud mode and Local P2P?

Cloud mode routes votes through Cloudflare Workers and D1, so participants anywhere can join with just the code — no shared network needed.

Local P2P uses Apple's MultipeerConnectivity (Bluetooth + Wi-Fi Direct) and requires all participants to be on the same local network or within Bluetooth range. It works fully offline.

What does the free tier include?

The free tier lets you run up to 3 simultaneously open votes. All core features are available: IRV engine, cloud + P2P networking, QR code join, live results, and vote history.

What does Pro add?

Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks:

• Unlimited open votes (no 3-vote cap)
• Anonymous mode
• CSV option import
• Export results to CSV

How does anonymous mode work?

When anonymous mode is enabled, individual ballot choices are encrypted locally before submission. Neither the creator nor other participants can see who voted for what until the deadline passes and results are revealed.

Can I change my vote after submitting?

Only if the vote creator enabled "allow vote changes." When enabled, you can revise your ranking any time before the deadline or before the creator closes the vote.

How is my data stored?

Vote history is stored locally on your device and backed up to iCloud Drive (iOS) if iCloud is enabled. Cloud-mode vote data is stored temporarily on Cloudflare infrastructure and is not used for advertising or shared with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

The app isn't connecting in cloud mode — what do I try?

• Check your internet connection on both devices.
• Make sure the join code is entered exactly (case-insensitive, but check for typos).
• Verify the vote is still open — closed votes cannot accept new participants.
• Force-quit and reopen the app, then try again.
• If issues persist, email us with your iOS / Android version and a brief description.

The app isn't connecting in local P2P mode — what do I try?

• Make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both enabled on all devices.
• Keep devices within 30 feet of each other.
• Check that the app has permission to use Bluetooth and Local Network in device Settings.
• Avoid switching between cloud and P2P mid-vote.
